Austin Benedict, Ryan Barker and Chris Gold of 50:50 Shot spoke with Rebecca Firth from YourFindit about the band, their latest projects and upcoming gigs in an audio interview.  Having recently organized a large concert event at the Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia, and performing at a ska festival in Knoxville, Tennessee, the band had a lot to talk about.

50:50 Shot, named after a band member’s chances of hooking up with a girl, was created after the fall out of Chris Gold’s band almost five years ago.  Heavily influenced by good friends the Taj Motel Trio, 50:50’s music is rock with a heavy ska influence.

With a strong interest in ska music, 50:50 bassist Austin Benedict organized the first annual Mass Ska Raid at Atlanta’s The Masquerade this year.  The show went down on Friday, July 18 and proved to be a successful event.  Partly for curiosity and partly for hope, Benedict says he set the event to revive Atlanta’s interest in ska music.  The band feels that Friday was a great night for ska and is already planning next year’s show.  They even joked about booking the popular pop/rock band Maroon 5 as a headliner.

50:50 Shot has been working on an album at the studio of the Taj Motel Trio since February 2008.  Although no release date has been set, the band is hopeful of having the CD release party on September 12.

The band will be playing at the Longbranch Saloon in Knoxville, Tennessee August 1.  They will play again on the 15th at their favorite venue, Swayzes, for the Swayze’s Ska Fest! in Marietta, Georgia.
