Toyota announced Thursday the recall of 1.33 million Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles produced between 2005 and 2008. Two-hundred thousand of the vehicles were sold in Canada and the rest were sold in the United States.
The recall comes after Toyota received reports of 3 accidents caused by a crack in the circuit board of the Engine Control Module, which can cause “harsh shifting” and may prevent the car from starting or cause the engine to stop while the vehicle is being driven.
"This recall is an example of our commitment to standing by our products and being responsive to our customers," Toyota's chief quality officer Steve St. Angelo said in a statement. "Our goals is to help ensure that Toyota drivers are completely confident in the safety and reliability of their vehicles."
Toyota will repair all affected vehicles at no cost. Owners who have already fixed the problem can get reimbursed.
Toyota has issued numerous recalls for various safety issues over the past year. The company has been concentrating in rebuilding their image.
