Strasburg out for Season?

Promising MLB Rookie Might Need Surgery

Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals might be out for the rest of this season. The very talented 22-year-old professional pitcher, who has been called "the most hyped and closely watched pitching prospect in the history of baseball" by Sports Illustrated, has a torn ligament and may soon undergo a Tommy John surgery that would put him out for the rest of the season. Strasburg was placed on the disabled list in July because of an inflamed right shoulder. On Friday, the Nationals announced that Strasburg has a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo has described the unfortunate injury as a "significant tear" and expects that the promising rookie will require surgery and the 12 to 18 months of rehabilitation that would follow. "As you can imagine, he was initially upset," said Rizzo. "But he has really turned himself from being upset to being focused on his rehabilitation. He's determined to get the surgery done and begin the process of rehabilitation."
