Albert Pujols Hits 400th Homer

Cardinals First Baseman Makes History

Albert Pujols, the 30-year-old first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals, is now officially the third youngest player ever to reach the 400-home run milestone. The World Series champion and 3-time National League MVP hit the 400 mark on Thursday night during a game against the Washington Nationals. The historic shot came from a hit on a fastball from Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmeman. Unfortunately, it was not the best of circumstances in which to celebrate Pujols' amazing achievement. Not only did the Cardinals lose the game, but Pujols sprained his ankle in the process. "It's pretty sore right now," Pujols said. "It was pretty scary. I tried to put my right leg on top of the tarp and slipped." In any case, Pujols certainly achieved something great on Thursday night. What did Pujols -- who is now the 47th major league player to reach the 400-HR milestone -- think of his achievement? "It's a special milestone," he said, "but I don't play for numbers."
