Rhode Island Police Arrest Man with Blood Alcohol Level of 0.491 Percent

A Rhode Island man was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated after registering a blood alcohol level of 0.491 percent, the highest ever recorded in the state.

Police arrested Stanley Kobierowski, 34, after he slammed his car into a highway message board. When police arrived Kobierowski struggled to get out of his vehicle and then had to be carried to a breakdown lane due to his intoxicated state.

Kobierowski was taken to a hospital and put in a detoxification unit. He appeared in court on Tuesday to hear the charges of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest leveled against him. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday to answer those charges.

Rhode Island’s legal blood alcohol level is 0.08. A 0.5 is considered fatal.
