Candace Parker and Rick Mahorn were among four people that were ejected after a brawl in a WNBA Game on Tuesday night.
The fight broke out during the game between the Los Angeles Sparks and the Detroit Shock at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Tuesday night.
With 4.6 seconds left in the emotionally-charged game, Parker got tangled with Detroit's Plenette Pierson at the free-throw line as both players fell to the ground. Pierson then ran directly into to Parker, causing a bench-clearing brawl between both teams.
Mahorn, the Shock assistant coach, was involved as he attempted to break up the fight. While doing so, he pushed Los Angeles' Lisa Leslie down to the ground.
Mahorn, the former Pistons "Bad Boy" with Shock head coach Bill Laimbeer, was also involved in the infamous NBA brawl between the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers back in 2004. Ironically, both fights occurred at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Parker, Pierson, Mahorn and Los Angeles' Delisha Milton-Jones were all ejected. Cheryl Ford of Detroit was injured during the fight and left in a wheelchair.
This was the first fight or brawl of this kind in WNBA history.
The Sparks defeated the Shock, 84-81. Parker had 21 points and five rebounds, Milton-Jones had 19 points and Leslie had 10 points and six rebounds. Detroit's Katie Smith led the Shock with 20 points and five assists, while Deanna Nolan had 14 points and four assists.
