Barack Obama Arrives in Tel Aviv, Vows to Strengthen U.S. Ties with Israel

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama arrived in Tel Aviv late Tuesday night and wasted little time in vowing to strengthen U.S. ties with Israel.

Speaking with Israeli President Shimon Peres the Illinois senator declared his commitment to “reaffirm the special relationship between Israel and the United States.” As part of that “special relationship” Obama professed his support for the security of Israel.

Obama also spoke about his desire to foster a lasting peace in the Middle East. That could be problematic as just last month Obama supported the belief that Jerusalem should be the undivided capital of Israel, something the Palestinians have fought against.
