Volcano in Indonesia Erupts for the Second Time, 2 Dead

A long-dormant volcano in Indonesia erupted for the second time Monday. Mount Sinabung first erupted Sunday morning just after 12:15. It erupted again Monday for more than 6 hours. The second eruption spewed smoke and ash more than 3 miles in to the air.

Priyadi Kardono of the National Disaster Coordination Agency said two people died after Monday’s eruption due to heart attack and respiratory complications. "We have sent food and gas masks for the rest of the displaced people,” Kardono added.

Before Sunday’s eruption, the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation ordered the evacuation of a 3.7 mile radius around Mount Sinabung. More than 30,000 people have fled the area.

Mount Sinabung, which is located on Sumatra Island, had been dormant for more than 400 years.
