Christian Bale 'Assault' Stemmed from Mother's Words About Wife Sandra Blazic

Christian Bale, the star of "The Dark Knight," confronted his mother as she insulted his wife Sandra "Sibi" Blazic, according to reports on Wednesday.

Sources close to Bale, who plays Batman in the blockbuster "The Dark Knight," told the U.K.'s Daily Mail that he "flew off the handle" at London's Dorchester hotel after Jenny Bale said "some outrageous things."

Bale's mother Jenny and sister Sharon reportedly went to the police station in Hampshire to file the complaint, which was subsequently referred to the Metropolitan Police, who later put Bale under arrest.

Bale was arrested Tuesday and released on bail without being charged with assault, which he has denied.

According to TMZ, Bale pushed or brushed his mother out of the way during the alleged altercation, but she was not hurt and did not fall down.

Bale reportedly had some issues with his wife Blazic, in addition to suffering from depression ater the January death of close friend Heath Ledger, who co-starred with Bale in "The Dark Knight".

Bale and Blazic have been married for years and have a daughter together. Blazic was once a model, a make-up artist and the personal assistant of Winona Ryder.

The news of the incident came just days after "The Dark Knight" broke box-office records, raking in $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend.

Bale first starred in movies as the child star of Steven Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun" in 1987 and as an adult has made his name in such films as "American Psycho" and "The Machinist."

Bale is the youngest of four children and is the stepson of Gloria Steinem.
