Bed and Breakfast Inns ... with Pubs!

In today’s socially responsible world, drinking and driving is a definite no-no. But what if you could find a wonderful pub with an equally wonderful bed and breakfast (B&B) attached? That’s exactly what iloveinns.com, America’s premier B&B/country inn portal has done! We’ve found lots of B&B pubs. Here are five to start with.

The Forty Putnam Road B&B in beautiful Brattleboro, Vermont is home to the Putney Road Pub. This is an intimate little bar with authentic pub fittings, and an excellent selection of wines and beers. In fact, the Putney Road Pub offers over 30 different wines by the glass or bottle, including B&G 2005 France (Pinot Noir), Rosemount Estates Diamond 2005 (Shiraz) and Franciscan Oakville Estate 2003 (Merlot). Meanwhile, the Putney Road Pub’s owners are self-confessed ‘beer geeks’ who have sampled over 200 beers from around the world. As a result, they offer their guests an unique lineup of beers and ales to sample, including Wolavers Organic Brown Ale (Vermont), Youngs Double Chocolate Stout (England), Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA (Delaware) and Pinkus Munster Alt (Germany). Yum!

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is not where one usually expects to find an authentic Irish pub. But it is the home of the County Clare Irish Pub & Inn. Styled in the true Irish fashion, the County Clare pub offers Irish Root Soup, Shepherd's Pie, Irish Stew, Corned Beef and Cabbage ... and lots of excellent beers! Add in live Irish music, and comfy rooms with four-poster beds and satellite TV where you can unwind from the festivities, and this is a place you will want to visit!

Virginia’s Blue Rock Inn is a B&B, pub, and restaurant; all housed inside a turn-of-the-20th-century restored farmhouse in rural Rappahannock County. The pub offers good old-fashioned pub fare, plus an extensive Martini list that includes the Classic Cosmopolitan (Absolut Citron, Cointreau, lime juice, cranberry juice, lime wedge), the Chocolate Mint Fantasy (Chocolate Vodka, Godiva, Peppermint Schnapps, fresh mint, chocolate shavings) and the Dirty Blue Rock Martini (Stolichnaya, dry vermouth, olive juice, Kalamata olives). When you’ve finished sampling the Martini list, you can rest in one of the Blue Rock Inn’s four upstairs rooms; each with a private balcony and view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Fancy a ghost with your ale? Then visit the Cape Cod Claddagh Inn in West Harwich, Massachusetts. Housed in a reputedly-haunted historic inn that was built as a parsonage, the Claddagh Irish Pub (a claddagh is an Irish ring given for friendship or marriage) is a small intimate pub serving homemade meals and good brews to visitors and locals alike. This pub is authentic in every detail with a copper clad bar and lots of Irish beers and stout. Irish music can happen at any time; usually when guests grab the instruments hung on the wall and start playing!

Reynolds Tavern is a truly historic part of Annapolis, having served the community as a hat shop, tavern, hotel, stable and library. It was constructed in 1737 of beautiful red brick in a Georgian style. In 2002, the Sly Fox Pub was opened in the cellar of the inn, taking full advantage of its historic brick floors and stone walls. Pub fare is featured as well as an extensive beer and wine list. In good weather, a beer garden is available outdoors. The inn offers several elegantly furnished suites and access to the best of Annapolis historic area attractions.
