Clearwater Super Boat Prepared to Handle “Throngs of Fans”
Even though more people are expected at Super Boat this year, and more activities are offered, the race committee is prepared to handle the influx of tourists – and the economic boost that will come from it.
Last year, the 1st Super Boat National Championships were held in Downtown Clearwater and Clearwater Beach and attracted 60,000 people and made an economic splash of an estimated $5-6 million without spending a penny of taxpayers’ money. This year, with the addition of new activities and an available VIP race experience, even more people are expected to come to and watch boats equipped with F-16 jet canopies reaching extreme speeds of up to 200 mph vie for the title of national champions during the Bright House 2010 Clearwater Super Boat National Championship Festival. However, the race committee says they are prepared to handle throngs of crowds migrating out to the beach to view the spectacle of “NASCAR on Water”.
“We should have as many if not more than last year. We had 60,000 total over the three days which included 25,000 on the water in boats,” says race co-chair Brian Aungst. “We feel confident we will easily surpass last year’s total attendance. We are light years ahead of last year. We have more help, more sponsors, more time to implement our plans and an outstanding group of committee members and volunteers ready to make this ‘the event’ annually in the City of Clearwater.”
The festival will be held October 1st – 3rd in Downtown Clearwater and Clearwater Beach. The event is family friendly and free, but passes for a VIP Race Experience can be purchased through the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerce, for $100 per person.
