FC Barcelona announced that the transfer for Liverpool star Javier Mascherano has been finalized, according to ESPN.
The Spanish juggernaut had been linked to Mascherano for a while, but last week, the teams finally agreed on a transfer fee. On Monday, the midfielder agreed to a four-year deal and a reserve clause worth 90 million pounds.
Barca added Mascherano during their exceptional moves during the transfer period. The team also added Valencia star striker David Villa, the top goal scorer for the World Cup champions Spain this summer, to join Lionel Messi, who is widely considered the best footballer in the world.
Barcelona stated that they would not bring in any more players to Camp Nou during the transfer period despite losing star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to AC Milan. Both Mascherano and Ibrahimovic passed their physicals and are not members of their new respective clubs.
Meanwhile, Barcelona has confirmed that defender Martin Caceres has joined Sevilla on a season-long loan. The 23-year-old Uruguay international went out to Juventus last year.
