Three-Year-Old Boy Mauled to Death by Pit Bull in Miss.

A thee-year-old Jackson, Mississippi boy was mauled to death by a pit bull Tuesday night and now the boy’s family wants the dog to be put down.

According to police reports Tony Evans Jr. entered the yard in which the pit bull was chained, wandered too close to the animal and was bitten in the abdomen. Evans was rushed to The University of Mississippi Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

When officers arrived at the scene they had to shoot the dog in self-defense but the dog survived the shooting and was quarantined by the Animal Control Unit. An investigation is being conducted to determine if the dog should be considered dangerous. If it is found to be dangerous the owner could be forced to euthanize it.

The owner is not facing any criminal charges because the dog had been chained in his yard when the attack occurred.
