An Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter crashed in Arkansas early Tuesday morning, killing all three people on board. A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said there was apparently no distress call from the Bell 206 helicopter before it went down near the Scotland community in Van Buren County around 4:30 a.m.
The crew was en route to the scene of a traffic accident to pick up a victim when the crash occurred. A spokesperson for Air Evac EMS said the names of the crew will be released later.
"This is a tragic day for us here at Air Evac Lifeteam. These were members of our family and we are devastated at this loss. Our focus at this time is on providing support for the family and friends of these crew members,” Air Evac Lifeteam President and CEO Seth Myers said in a statement.
The cause of the crash is being investigated. This is not the first fatal crash for Air Evac. The company lost two 3 man crews in two separate crashes in 2007 and 2008. In March of this year, three crew members were killed when a helicopter went down in western Tennessee.
