Our court system is notorious for overload. According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice statistics, drug arrests alone have skyrocketed from 468,000 in 1981 to over 1,645,000 in 2007. This has placed a heavy load on our court systems and as a result increased taxes and government expenses to compensate.
However, in Michigan, Narconon Freedom Center, a non-profit drug rehabilitation center is assisting in lessening this load on our court system. This drug rehab works directly with the court system to assist non-violent drug addicts to get the help they need in overcoming their addiction instead of costing taxpayers money to house them behind bars.
Most DUI cases and drug addicts arrested have become criminal due to their addiction. Punishment, although it may seem warranted, seldom changes the course of the addict. In fact, addicts who go to jail often continue to be addicts in jail and come out onto public streets far more a menace than when they arrived. The success of "jail reform" can be seen by the rising numbers of repeat offenders that return to jail. This is because the underlying cause isn't addressed.
When someone comes to Narconon their addiction is addressed head on. The person withdraws from drugs without the use of substitute drugs. The student is then put through a series of courses and drills that teach them how to confront the problems they have in life rather than run from them and begins to restore their communication with others. This does remarkable things, including getting one to start being concerned for the welfare of others. The program also addresses morals and ethics, teaching these thoroughly and has precise steps the student must do to improve his interaction with others.
The Narconon program was Founded by William Benitez while himself a heroin addict in Arizona State Penitentiary. Using a book he studied called The Fundamentals of Thought, written by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, he was able to overcome his addiction and the Narconon program was born.
Narconon Freedom Center in Michigan has an over 70% success rate of permanent recovery from drug addiction. In working with the court system they can assist drug offenders who are more of a risk to themselves than others because of their own drug abuse, and truly rehabilitate them from drugs. The results of the Narconon program are productive ethical members of society.
