NBA coach Doc Rivers, whose Boston Celtics team lost to the Los Angeles
Lakers in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals, must have apparently flustered
some people after he recently said that the Lakers "still have not
beaten our starting five. Our starting five against the Lakers starting
five has a ring. Tell them, don't forget that. We'll be back strong and
Perk will be here next year if there's a Game 7." Rivers basically seems
to be saying that the Celtics lost the 2010 Finals simply because they
did not have their starting five available for Game 7. For those who
don't remember (or never even knew), Kendrick Perkins, the starting
center for Boston, injured in his knee in Game 6 and therefore did not
play in Game 7. Rasheed Wallace and Glen Davis had to step in for the
injured Perkins, and then the Celitcs lost. Anyway, as mentioned above,
the comment apparently hit the wrong note with some people. Ron Artest,
who ended up being the 'hero' of Game 7 by scoring 20 points, including a three-pointer late in the fourth quarter, has not taken too kindly to Rivers' comment and has since sent
out a number of tweets that challenge Rivers' implication. The tweets
include the following:
"Boston lost to Lakers because of Kendrick
Perkins injury. What about in 08 when Bynum was injured. What about
this year Bynum was injured...
"What about Kobe played with a
broke finger...What about Ron artest defense When the Boston staff said
Ron artest was too slow...
"Doc got one million excuses...
"The lakers with Bynum in the playoffs healthy has not lost...
"Let's see if my defense is less effective this year...
"So Boston is going to championship right past Miami?"
So on and so forth.
