MLB News: Cincinnati Reds Phenom Aroldis Chapman Expected to Make Debut Tuesday

Cincinnati Reds phenom Aroldis Chapman is expected to make his Major League Baseball debut on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to ESPN.

Chapman is expected to be called up from his Triple-A Louisville team to play their NL Central rivals.

By adding him in August, the Reds will make the Cuban phenom eligible for the postseason and allow him to face batters who are unaware of his pitching, catching them off-guard.

Chapman, 22, signed a six-year, $30.25 million deal with Cincinnati in January. He was in the competition for the fifth starter's spot during spring training until he was sidelined by back spasms.

The Reds, who are up five games above the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central race, sent him to Triple-A Louisville to start the season, where he went 5-5 with a 4.11 ERA in 13 starts. Last month, they moved him to a reliever and his results were much improved, going 4-1 with a 2.40 ERA in 26 relief appearances.

Chapman’s fastball has been clocked at 103 mph as a starter, reaching 105 mph as a reliever.
