Dr. Kevin Antario Brown Charged with Sexual Assault of Patient

Dr. Kevin Antario Brown, a Los Angeles doctor, was charged with sexually assaulting a patient and an undercover cop, according to reports on Thursday.

Brown, 37, was charged Tuesday with seven counts: three felonies and four misdemeanors. The charges include sexual battery by fraud and sexual exploitation by a physician. Brown was supposed to be arraigned on Thursday, but it will adjourn on August 7.

A year-long undercover investigation surrounding Brown was started in June 2007 after an 18-year-old woman claimed that Brown inappropriately touched her during an examination.

On July 8, Brown was arrested on suspicion of assaulting the 18-year-old patient and an undercover officer who posed as a patient this year. Both incidents apparently happened at Brown's office at the Crenshaw Expo Medical Center in Los Angeles. Brown was then released on $50,000 bail.

Since the charges, seven more alleged victims of Brown have come forward, totaling 19 felony charges of molestation against the doctor. Three more cases are being prepared against Brown, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Brown was then remanded in custody on $4 million bail after facing 19 felony counts, including a lewd act on a 15-year-old, rape, sexual battery by fraud and sexual exploitation in the court yesterday. These alleged assaults occurred between November 6, 2006, and May 31, 2008. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in state prison.

Brown, the son of Ewart Brown, the Premier of Bermuda, received controversy earlier this year by hosting a charity fundraiser at the Playboy Mansion, in which his father donated three all-expense paid trips to Bermuda in conjunction with Elbow Beach to the event.

Brown's charity, the Urban Health Institute of Los Angeles, is run out of the same office as the Crenshaw Expo Medical Center.
