CNN's "Black In America" Discusses Black Men on Thursday

CNN's "Black in America" week-long special continues on Thursday night at 9 p.m. EST as it focuses on the Black man.

On Wednesday, "Black in America," which is hosted by CNN reporter Soledad O'Brien, focused on the Black woman and Black family. With glimpses into the perils of low-income and its effect on education, health care, family life and gang prevention.

Harvard economics professor Roland Fryer explained to O'Brien his radical idea that he has implemented at a Brooklyn elementary school. Fryer instituted a program that will give fourth-graders a financial incentive for their good grades. Students can earn up to $250 a year.

"Black in America" touched on the racial diversity of Black people, showing a family that traced its roots to a White side of the family, as well as the growing number of Black woman marrying White men.

The dichotomy of the growing Black middle class and struggling single-family home was also discussed, showing the close promixity in location yet distance in lifestyle.

The alarming rate of HIV and AIDS was discussed as well as they showed an 18-year old mother from the Bronx take an HIV test. In addition, they profiled an author who is HIV positive and travels to lecture people to increase their awareness of the disease.

Health care and gang prevention were also covered, showing the income disparity between healthy food, health care and violence.
