Grandmother: Caylee Anthony Spotted Twice in Georgia

The grandmother of missing Florida toddler Caylee Anthony says the 2-year-old has been spotted in Georgia as recently as Tuesday night. Cindy Anthony says the sighting “makes me more hopeful” that Caylee will be returned home safely.

The child’s mother, Casey Anthony, is being held in a Florida prison on charges of child endangerment and lying to police. Anthony waited nearly two months to report her daughter missing and lied to police about dropping Caylee off at a babysitter’s apartment five weeks ago.

Anthony told authorities that she dropped Caylee off at a babysitters apartment in early June and has been looking for the woman and her daughter ever since. The apartment she identified had been vacant for four months and the woman she claimed to be the babysitter said she didn’t know Anthony.

“Based on two more tips yesterday, two more sighting of Caylee in Georgia as late as two nights ago, makes me very hopeful. It looks like they’re moving more northern into Georgia, towards the mountains,” Cindy tells Meredith Vieira of the Today show.

A woman told police that she saw and talked to Caylee at an Orlando airport three weeks ago. She said the toddler was boarding a flight to Atlanta with an older woman. The woman said she talked to the girl and the girl said her name was Caylee Anthony.

Police used the woman’s description of the older woman to make a sketch, but the Anthony’s lawyer says authorities aren’t doing enough to find Caylee.

“We want to be respectful to law enforcement, but that only goes so far. We want to see results and we want to see them actually doing a search and not a prosecution. That’s what we’ve been saying all along,” said lawyer Jose Baez.

Authorities are reportedly treating Caylee’s case as a homicide. Police say Casey’s car was found abandoned in a parking lot and smelled of human decomposition. Casey claims that the smell was from a piece of rotted pizza that was left in the trunk of the vehicle.

A reward of $225,000 is offered for information leading to the recovery of Caylee.
