Nigerian Militants Kidnap Five Eastern European Oil Workers

Five eastern European oil workers have been kidnapped after the boat they were travelling on was attacked by Nigerian militants.

The boat, owned by the Saipem oil services company, was targeted in international waters shortly after leaving its naval escort near the Niger Delta. There had been twelve oil workers from the Ukraine and Russia aboard the boat when the militants laid siege.

Seven of the oil workers have been freed but no word has been released about the other five. Nigerian militants often target oil workers because oil companies are known to pay high ransoms for their release.
