Police Raid Paris Home of L’Oreal Heiress Liliane Bettencourt

At the order of a judge in Paris, France, police raided the home of L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt on Wednesday. A source close to the situation says the search was ordered by a judge investigating whether photographer Francois Marie Banier bilked Bettencourt out of millions of dollars. Bettencourt, 87, was reportedly not at home at the time of the raid.

Bettencourt’s finances are at the center of several investigations. She is facing accusations of tax evasion. Secret recordings reportedly made by Bettencourt’s butler revealed a bank account in Switzerland containing $98.3 million, which was not reported on her taxes.

Bettencourt is also accused of illegal campaign funding involving Labor Minister Eric Woerth and President Nicolas Sarkozy.
