Severe Flooding Kill at least 16 in Eastern Europe

Strong storms knocking out electricity and causing major damage to bridges has sparked major flooding in western Ukraine and northern Romania leading to at least 16 deaths, 13 in Ukraine.

The massive storms have damaged more than 20,000 homes and led to evacuations on both sides of the border as the Prut and Dniestr rivers spilled over and flood waters raged through towns and villages

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko toured the affected region and declared it a disaster area. Efforts have been put into place to continue sandbagging to impede the progress of the water.
