Yosemite Fires Threaten Thousands of Homes

Nearly 900 firefighters are currently battling a massive blaze along the Merced River near an entrance to Yosemite National Park with approximately 2,000 homes in its path.

More than 18,000 acres have been scorched by the out-of-control inferno, now being called the Telegraph Fire, which has caused the evacuations of 170 homes, most in the town of Midpines.

The fires in Midpines, along Highway 140, are quickly approaching the west entrance of Yosemite National Park.

Authorities have blamed the fire on target shooting but would not elaborate.
