Suicide Attacks During Shiite Processions Kill 31

At least 31 people were killed Wednesday after three suicide bombers struck a Shiite procession in Lahore, Pakistan. Authorities say the explosions occurred within a radius of 2,000 feet.

The first bomb was detonated as the procession was ending. A police officer tried to stop the bomber, but didn’t catch up with him in time. The second bomb was detonated about four minutes later. It was followed by the third blast about 25 minutes later.

Khusro Pervez, a senior government official, said security should have been “more vigilant” at the end of the procession.

At least 340 people were injured in the explosions. Police have recovered two heads and one body.
