Serbian War Crimes Court Awaiting Appeal by Radovan Karadzic

The process of placing former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic before the International Criminal Court in The Hague continues to be delayed as Serbia’s war crimes court awaits the delivery of an appeal filed by Karadzic’s lawyer.

Karadzic is facing extradition before the ICC to answer charges related to war crimes for his role during the Bosnian war from 1992 to 1995. The ICC prosecutor requested his extradition to face those charges after he was arrested last week in Belgrade. He had been a fugitive for more than 13 years when he was caught.

According to Serbian law Karadzic’s appeal will go before three judges who have three days to decide if he will be extradited.

Karadzic’s lawyer has said he mailed the appeal from a remote area in Bosnia in hopes of delaying the process.
