Republican presidential candidate John McCain had a spot removed from the left side of his face during a routine checkup on Monday.
McCain, having already suffered from skin cancer in the past, had the spot removed as a precaution. There was no indication that the spot removed on Monday was cancerous.
Since 1993 McCain has had four malignant melanomas removed. The fourth melanoma was considered invasive and removed in 2000.
Because of his skin cancer history McCain has routine skin exams.
