Fight Breaks out at U.S. Open

On Thursday night, while Novak Djokovic was battling Phillip Petzschner in a second-round match at the U.S. Open, a separate battle broke out in the audience. The fight, which caused a temporary delay of game, broke out in the first set of Djokovic's 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(6) defeat of Petzschner. During the loud commotion, Djokovic and Petzschner stopped playing and looked up to the higher rows of Arthur Ashe Stadium, where all the noise was coming from. New York police handcuffed three fans and escorted them out of the stadium. According to the Associated Press, "Nobody was hurt." It was a "disagreement over verbiage," said U.S. Tennis Association spokesman Chris Widmaier. "It was a hot night in New York. Things happen." Yes, things have been happening in this very hot U.S. Open, from Roddick's bickering and early upset loss to Victoria Azarenka's collapse and subsequent withdrawal from the Open doubles tournament. And that is only from the first two rounds. (Sources: Associated Press)
