A UPS place carrying two crew members crashed shortly after taking off from the Dubai International Airport on Friday. According to reports, the Boeing 747 went down around noon in an uninhabited area of a Dubai air force base.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known. There are conflicting reports on the fate of the two crew members. Bob Lekites, manager of airline and international operations for the United Parcel Service, confirmed a UPS plane headed to Cologne, Germany crashed.
"Safety is a key priority for UPS. This incident is very unfortunate and we will do everything we can to find the cause. Our thoughts go out to the crewmembers involved in the incident and their families,” Lekites said in a statement. “We will also release more information as it becomes available, in cooperation with government authorities. We will not speculate about the cause. Until then, we ask for your patience in this difficult time.”
