Amnesty International Claims China’s Human Rights Situation has Worsened

According to reports submitted by Amnesty International next month’s Olympic Games in Beijing has done little to improve China’s reputation for human rights violations.

Amnesty International reporters have indicated that rights violations have actually increased since Beijing was announced as the 2008 Olympic Games host with several infractions in the area of censorship and indiscriminate imprisonment.

Despite promising to improve its reputation regarding human rights and media freedom China has seen its reputation worsen as the international community looks on. With the Olympics just ten days away China continues to suppress protestors and block media outlets.

According to Roseann Rife, deputy program director for Amnesty International, “We've seen deterioration in human rights because of the Olympics.”
