Bennigan's Bar & Grill Restaurants Closing Across the U.S.

Bennigan's Grill and Tavern, the American cuisine restaurant chain, is reportedly closing several locations across the United States, according to reports on Tuesday.

According to Reuters, at least three Bennigan's restaurants in both Illinois and New Jersey are closing.

Parent company Metromedia Restaurant Group (MRG) had no comment for Reuters reporters on the Bennigan's closings. Metromedia, based in Plano, Texas, also owns the Steak and Ale, Ponderosa and Bonanza chains and operates 700 restaurants in 16 countries

Metromedia has gone through an influx over the past couple of months. In May, Clay Dover resigned from his position as President and CEO of MRG after a year at the post.

In June, the Dallas Business Journal reported that Metromedia placed 59 of its restaurants on sale, including 40 Bennigan's, eight Ponderosas and 11 Steak & Ales. The company had closed eight Bennigan's, including two in the Dallas area and two in Florida.

Bennigan's was founded in 1976 and has restaurants in 32 states. The casual dining restaurant has a semi-Irish pub theme.
