Three Suspects Held in Antigua Honeymoon Murder Case

Three suspects were being held in an Antigua jail Tuesday following an attack that left a British newlywed doctor dead and her husband on life support. While robbery appeared to be the motive in the case, police have not released any information on the suspects.

Catherine and Benjamin Mullany, both 31, were attacked before dawn Sunday inside their cottage at Coco’s Hotel. Both were shot in the head. Benjamin survived the attack, suffering a fractured skull and a broken leg. He remains in critical condition at a hospital in St. John’s.

Catherine Mullany’s death is the first visitor homicide in over ten years in Antigua and only the tenth homicide reported this year. Robbery appeared to be the motive in the attack.

More than 97,000 tourists visited the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbado last year. Government officials have promised an increase in security for the area.
