Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Announces Plans to Step Down
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has announced that he plans to step down from office in two months following constant pressure from critics who have called for his resignation due to corruption allegations.
Olmert has said he will wait until his Kadima party selects a new leader.
Olmert became the acting Prime Minister in January 2006 following a sever hemorrhagic stroke suffered by Ariel Sharon. In May 2006 Olmert took the position of head of government after the formation of the 31st government on May 4 2006.
The 62-year-old Olmert has been embroiled in controversy due to allegations related to corruption while he served in various offices of government.
