No.1-seeded Caroline Wozniacki eliminated Maria Sharapova from the 2010 U.S. Open on Monday by defeating the 2006 U.S. Open champion 6-3, 6-4 in a fourth round match. Sharapova, who seemed to be in pretty good form earlier in the tournament, had nine double faults during yesterday's match, including three in a row. Surprisingly, she totaled 36 unforced errors in the 2-set match. "I felt like I was playing well out there," Wozniacki later said, "I made her do those
errors." Interestingly, Sharapova also had 8 break point chances against the Danish World No. 2, but she only managed to convert one. "That's pretty bad, to say the least," said Sharapova after the match. The victory represented Wozniacki's first against Sharapova in three career meetings against her. But the two had not met since 2008, so the 2009 U.S. Open finalist has had plenty of time to improve her game. "I've improved a lot, not only physically, but also I believe in myself more. I believe I can do it," Wozniacki said. "Obviously," said a defeated Sharapova, "she's at the top of her game." (Sources: ESPN.com)
