Boulder, Colorado Wildfire Destroys Dozens of Homes

A wildfire that broke out near Boulder, Colorado on Monday has destroyed dozens of homes and prompted the evacuation of 1,000 others. There have been no reports of injuries or deaths.

"We did mandatory evacuations, but we still had people who didn't leave," said Rick Brough of the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. "There's many subdivisions up there."

The fire has covered 3,500 acres and continues to spread with the help of 45 mph wind gusts. Authorities deployed seven tankers, two spotter aircraft and three helicopters Tuesday to help extinguish the blaze and protect homes.

The cause of the fire, which started about 6 miles north of Boulder, is still unknown.
