Electric Light Orchestra Musician Killed in Car Accident

Michael Edwards, a former cellist with the rock group Electric Light Orchestra, died Monday in a car accident in southwestern England. Edwards was killed after he swerved to miss a 1,323 pound bale of hay that rolled into the road. He crashed into another car. There were no other reports of injuries or deaths. Edwards was 62.

"This was a tragic accident and we have now identified the victim as Michael Edwards, a founder member of ELO. We have used photographs and YouTube footage to identify him but we now need help contacting his family for formal identification. We don't believe he was ever married and we have identified an ex-girlfriend but she is currently abroad,” said Sgt. Steve Walker of the Devon and Cornwall Police Traffic Unit.

Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) was formed in the late 60s by Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan. Edwards joined the band in the mid 70s after Wood and several new members left. In all, ELO released twelve studio albums. The first eleven were released between 1971 and 1986 and the twelfth was released in 2001.
