Shooting at Honduras Factory leaves 18 People Dead

A shooting at a shoe factory in Pedro Sula, Honduras Tuesday afternoon left 18 people dead and several others wounded. Two gunmen armed with AK-47 assault rifles entered the factory around 3:45 p.m. and began shooting.

Police say 13 people died at the scene and 5 others died at a nearby hospital. Chief Hector Ivan Mejia with the San Pedro Sula Police Department said the motive for the shooting is unknown.

“We will not rest until capturing the persons responsible,” Mejia added.

The area where the factory is located is believed to be under the control of the street gang Mara 18. There is no evidence that Mara 18 is behind the shooting.

Authorities are currently working to identify the bodies.
