DHEA tp Cortisol Ratio - A Key Measure of Aging

DHEA,dehydroepiandrosterone, is the most abundant pro-hormone in DHEA,dehydroepiandrosterone, is the most abundant pro-hormone in the human body.the human body.

Production of DHEA falls as we age. In addition to its many beneficial effects, DHEA is a chemical mediator of inflamation. The anti-inflamatory effects of DHEA decrease as we age because we progressively produce less and less DHEA after about age 25. Low DHEA levels are associated with higher risks for most diseases of aging.

The only hormone that generally increases as we age is cortisol. Cortisol is the result of the inflamatory response of the body. The body produces cortisol in response to stresses - both physical stress such as fighting infection and mental stress. High levels of cortisol are associated with most diseases of aging - such as heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer.

The ratio of DHEA to cortisol is extremely important as an indicator of overall health as we age; and a reliable indicator of risk for most diseases of aging. Cardiac patients and people with Alzheimer's disease and cancer have low DHEA/cortisol ratios.

Therefore, increasing DHEA levels and/or decreasing cortisol levels is strongly recommended; and supported throughout medical studies and medical publications.

Twist 25 transdermal DHEA supplement cream is the best product I know of to help maintain healthy DHEA levels.

Holy Basil is believed to help reduce cortisol levels; but it is more difficult to lower cortisol than it is to raise DHEA levels.
