Lakers Star Matt Barnes on Domestic Violence Arrest: I Was the Victim

Los Angeles Lakers star Matt Barnes took to his Twitter page early this morning to urge his fans and followers to not jump to conclusions about his domestic violence arrest. "DON'T LET YOUR EARS WITNESS, WHAT YOUR EYES DIDN'T SEE!!!" he wrote.

Barnes was arrested in Sacramento Wednesday afternoon after allegedly having a “physical confrontation” with his girlfriend, who has not been identified. Barnes is also accused of trying to prevent his girlfriend from calling 911. Both Barnes and the woman had visible injuries.

Barnes was booked at the Sacramento County Mail Jail on a felony charge of domestic violence. He was released around 9:40 p.m. after posting $50,000 bail.

According to reports, Barnes texted Channel 10 reporter Bryan May after the incident. "U know any domestic violence situation 9 outa 10 times the man gets arrested. That's the case here I was the victim but still got arrested. No matter what I say people are gonna think what they want...” he wrote.

Barnes signed a two-year, $3.6 million contract with the Lakers last month.
