First Hour Biggest Stock Movers (NYSE: GS, MCD, MW)

Shares of Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE:GS) is one of the most active blue-chip stock movers on Thursday after The U.K.'s Financial Services Authority said it has fined Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

17.5 million pounds ($27 million) for failing to disclose a U.S. fraud probe that encompassed the firm's U.K. operations. The FSA said Goldman didn't tell it about Wells Notices sent to both Goldman and trader Fabrice Tourre. Separately, the Hong Kong securities regulator banned a former managing director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Shares of GS rose over 2% to $150.47 in the opening session.

McDonald's Corporation (NYSE:MCD) fell 3% to $73.93 after it said its global comparable sales, or sales at all restaurants in operation for at least 13 months, rose 4.9% in August, matching the consensus forecast. Sales climbed 4.6% in the U.S., gained 2.2% in Europe and jumped 7.8% in Asia, Middle East and Africa.

McDonald’s Corporation franchises and operates McDonald’s restaurants in the food service industry. These restaurants serve a varied, yet limited, value-priced menu in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Shares of The Men's Wearhouse, Inc. (NYSE:MW) jumped about 5% after the company posted a higher than estimated profit in the fiscal second quarter.

The company said that its new income improved to $42.5 million, or 80 cents a share, from $39.5 million, or 75 cents a share, in the year-earlier driven by sharp increase in Tuxedo rental sales. On an adjusted basis, the company earned of 83 cents a share in the latest quarter.

Revenue grew to $537 million from $526.2 million in the latest quarter.

Analysts were expecting the company report earnings of 77 cents per share on revenue of $535.01 million.

For the current quarter, the company projects adjusted earnings of 40 - 47 cents a share, topping analysts’ estimates of 41 cents a share.
