HS Basketball: Andrew Harrison, Rodney Purvis Top Rivals.com's Initial 2013 Rankings

by Kyle "Scoop" Yeldell

Andrew Harrison tops the initial class of 2013 high school basketball rankings by Rivals.com this week.

Harrison, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound point guard, is joined by his identical twin brother Aaron, who is ranked No. 10. While Andrew is more of a power lead guard, Aaron is more of a shooting guard, despite being the same height and weight. The two have transferred from Strake Jesuit (Houston, TX) to Travis (Fort Bend, TX).

Rodney Purvis, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard from Upper Room Christian (Raleigh, NC), is ranked No. 2, followed by 6-foot-8, 235-pound power forward Julius Randle (Prestonwood Christian/Plano, TX); 6-foot-4, 180-pound combo guard Chris Thomas (Princeton Day Academy/Bowie, MD); and 6-foot-8, 205-pound small forward Kuran Iverson (Northwest Catholic/Hartford, CT).

The rankings are somewhat of a family affair. In addition to the Harrison twins, several other players have relatives who are former high school, college and NBA stars. Tyree Robinson, who is ranked No. 13, has a twin brother Tyrel who is also a top-notch Division 1 prospect.

Iverson is the cousin of former NBA All-Star Allen Iverson. Aaron Gordon (No. 7) is the younger brother of former McDonald’s All-American and current New Mexico forward Drew Gordon, while Isaac Hamilton (No. 12) is the younger brother of former McDonald’s All-American and current Texas forward Jordan Hamilton. Jabari Parker (No. 11) is the son of Chicago playground legend and former NBA player Sonny Parker.

Out of the top 15 prospects in the 2013 class, seven of the prospects are guards, six are forwards and two are post players. All 15 sophomores are ranked as five-star prospects.
