Vince Weiguang Li appeared in court Friday after being arrested for the gruesome murder and beheading of Tim McLean on a packed Greyhound bus.
Li, 40, was arrested Wednesday at the scene and charged early Friday with second-degree murder for the gory death of McLean.
Li, an Edmonton resident, had his hearing in courtroom in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on Friday. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday. Li is currently being held in a Winnipeg detention center and is under constant video surveillance.
While riding on a bus to Manitoba, Li stabbed McLean, who was sleeping next to him, and decapitated him with a Rambo knife. He then waved the severed head at horrified passengers.
After being pulled to the side of the road in Portage la Prairie, 34 passengers left the bus, locking Li inside with the gruesome scene. Police arrested Li at the scene. There is no motive thus far for the attack.
On Friday, the court judge asked that Li be held in custody pending a court-ordered psychological evaluation.
McLean, 22, was then the center of tributes on Facebook and MySpace as friends remembered him and his personality. On his MySpace profile, "Jokawild", as he called himself, described himself as someone who was into having a good time and "getting the most out of life."
