James Franco, who would apparently like to put some rumors to rest, recently said during an interview with Advocate magazine that he is not gay, or a stoner. "Everyone thinks I'm a stoner, and some people think I'm gay because I've played these gay roles," said the 32-year-old actor. "That's what people think, but it's not true. I don't smoke pot. I'm not
gay. But on another level, there's something in me that is able to play
roles like that in a way that's convincing." Believable, considering that Franco has been in a relationship with Ahna O'Reilly for five years. Many people may have thought Franco is gay simply because he has played a gay character in multiple movies, including Milk and Blind Spot. And he is set to portray another gay character in Howl, which opens September. But Franco explains his motivation to play these kinds of roles by saying that "In this history of cinema, there are so many heterosexual love
stories. It's so hammered, so done. It's just not that
interesting to me. It's more interesting to me to play roles and
relationships that haven't been portrayed as often." As for drugs, Franco played a drug dealer in Pineapple Express but he says that he simply has "No time, really" for drinking or doing drugs, contrary to what some might think.
