Tropical Storm Edouard Gaining Strength, Could Hit Gulf Coast as Hurricane by Tuesday

Residents along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast are preparing for what could become Hurricane Edouard as the current Tropical Storm continues to gain strength as its moves west over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Edouard had sustained winds near 50 mph early Monday morning and those are expected to increase to 75 mph, the point at which the tropical storm would become a hurricane.

Texas has already activated emergency teams while residents in coastal Louisiana have taken precautions as forecasters have predicted 2 to 4 inches of rain, threatening to flood the low-lying areas.

Warnings for the Texas coast from Port O’Connor to Port Arthur are facing 3 to 5 inches of rain with some areas facing the possibility of 8 inches.
