Barack Obama Criticizes John McCain in New Advertisement, Says Republican Candidate in Big Oil’s Pocket

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has launched a new television advertisement in which he criticizes his Republican opponent John McCain as being in the pocket of big oil.

McCain’s campaign instantly attacked the ad and poked holes in its content, saying Obama had used selective information in crafting the message.

In the advertisement the narrator can be heard declaring “big oil's filling John McCain's campaign with $2m in contributions.” The ad also pictures McCain with current President George Bush and warns, “After one president in the pocket of big oil, we can't afford another."

According to McCain’s campaign the advertisement failed to mention Obama had already pocketed $400,000 from big oil contributors for his campaign and supported a 2005 bill that gave tax breaks for energy producers.

Obama’s ad then promotes the use of a windfall profits tax on big oil that would provide enough funding to provide American families with a $1,000 tax rebate.
