Tropical Storm Edouard Batters Texas Coast

Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall early Tuesday morning, battering the upper coast of Texas and into western Louisiana with heavy rains and sustained winds of 65 mph.

Edouard did not develop into a hurricane, falling short of the 74 mph winds that bump a tropical storm to a Category One hurricane, but pounded the coast just east of Galveston between High Island and Sabine Pass when it made landfall causing concerns of flooding.

The National Hurricane Center predicted up to 10 inches of rain in Texas while Louisiana could receive up to 5 inches.

Low-lying areas in Louisiana have been evacuated while 17 Texas counties have already been declared disaster areas.
