John Gotti Jr. Arrested on 3 Murder Charges

John “Junior” Gotti, the former head of the Gambino family, was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with three New York murders committed in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. The 44-year-old, who is the son of the late Gambino family boss “Dapper Don” John Gotti, was arrested at his Oyster Bay, Long Island home by the FBI.

He is charged with murder conspiracy in connection with three mob hits and federal authorities in Tampa, Florida are expected to announce a racketeering indictment.

Gotti is expected to appear in a Manhattan federal court on Tuesday for a removal hearing.

In 1999, Gotti pleaded guilty to racketeering charges including bribery, extortion, fraud and gambling. He served 77 months in prison and was released in 2005. In 2005 and 2006 he was tried three times in a Manhattan court on racketeering charges for allegedly plotting to kidnap Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa. They all ended in mistrials.

The junior Gotti took over a boss of the Gambino family after his father was convicted of racketeering, 13 murders, obstruction of justice, extortion tax evasion and several other charges in 1992. The senior Gotti was sentenced to life in prison and died in 2002 of cancer.
