This year Taylor Swift got the last word at the MTV VMAs. The country singer shot back at Kanye West in a performance of her new song “Innocent.” West stormed the stage last year during Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video. He snatched the microphone from her hand and declared Beyonce should have won the award.
Swift, 20, never made direct reference to the rapper in “Innocent,” but her rep told CNN that the lyrics tell “about her feelings about last year's VMAs.” Her performance started with video clips of West’s stage crashing.
"Some things you can't speak of, but tonight you live it all again,” she sang.
"You have new Septembers," she continued. "Everyone one of us has messed up, too."
“It's all right, just wait and see. Your string of lights is still bright to me. You're still an innocent,” sang Swift.
West was not in the audience during the performance. The song will appear on Swift’s upcoming album “Speak Now,” which is set to hit stores on October 25.
