Durant Leads U.S. to Gold

"Our only option was to come out here and get a gold, and it feels really good to bring this back home to the States," Durant said, after leading the U.S. to its first FIBA Gold medal since 1994. Many basketball fans were calling this FIBA lineup the "B-Team," since it lacked such NBA superstars as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade. But, according to Durant, "that was extra motivation. It was exciting to come out here and win and also to prove people wrong." Durant led the scoring against Turkey with 28, setting a record for most points scored by any U.S. player in the tournament. Lamar Odom  also proved to be a vital force for the U.S. team, turning in 15 points and 11 rebounds. "I thought we rallied and we became a little bit of an unconventional team," said coaching great Mike Krzyzewski. "We thought we could win, we just felt it would be a lot harder, and they worked real hard and they made it happen." (Sources: ESPN.com)
