The body of a Venezuelan governor was found early Saturday morning in a river in the city of San Juan de los Morros. State media reports William Lara died after his vehicle slid off a highway and into the Paya River Friday afternoon. Lara, 53, was pulled from the car by his driver, but was swept away by strong currents.
Lara served as minister of communications from 2006 to 2008. He was elected governor of Guarica in 2008.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez spoke out on Lara’s tragic death saying, "Let us be like Willian, let us be like him until the last second of life.”
